Benefits of Cutting & Routing Vertically

Vertical panel saw frame comparison

Advantages of Using a Vertical Panel Saw

Cutting panels without gravity assisting can be a stressful task for woodworking shops. Panel saws cut more accurately than many other cutting methods while also offering important safety benefits for the operator.

Panel saws and routers can help reduce operator exposure to a saw blade rotating at over 5,000 revolutions per minute. The vertical positioning of the panel on the frame also helps prevent the operator from bending over during cuts.

Cutting and routing vertically offers several additional benefits, including:

Vertical Positioning for Panels

One person can handle full-size sheets accurately and safely while holding tight cutting tolerances, ranging from 1/32” to .005” straight and square.

Cutting and Routing with One Machine

An easily interchangeable saw and router carriage on saw and router combination machines allows the motors to be swapped in about 60 seconds. The saw rotates easily, and the router maintains a consistent cutting depth.

Panel saws require an 8” or 8.25” blade with the proper tooth configuration based on the material being cut. These can be sourced from your local supplier or preferred online retailer.

Router motors require ¼” or ½” shank bits for many applications, also available from local suppliers or online stores.

Heavily Guarded Saw Blade

A heavily guarded saw blade helps eliminate most casual operator contact with the blade, reducing the risk of accidental injuries that can occur more easily with other cutting methods.

Low Maintenance Bearing & Guide Rail Systems

Steel guides help support accurate cuts, with cut tolerances ranging from .030” to .005” straight and square. Components are extruded, machined, welded, and aligned in Minnesota.

Rugged Construction

A one-piece steel welded frame with a fully welded guide tube carriage helps provide long-term durability. A center frame with two pieces of square steel tubing rotated at a 45-degree angle adds additional structural strength.

Built-in Rulers

Included vertical and horizontal measuring tapes on the machine help improve measurement accuracy and workflow efficiency.

Material Rollers

Three-inch heavy-duty material rollers using ¾” maintenance-free bearings allow for easier loading and unloading of panels.

Dust Port

An included dust port near the saw blade allows dust to be directed into a collection hose when connected to dust collection.

Industrial Grade Motors

Motors range from 1.75 horsepower to 3.25 horsepower and are capable of cutting through material up to 2” thick.

Simple Controls

These machines are designed for straightforward operation. Once operators are properly trained, they can be used efficiently in a wide range of shop environments.
